For Charity

"This entire project was created for the love and want to surround myself with beautiful and talented women. To create a community of salty, sun kissed mermaids who want to make a difference. It was created with the passion to be a better role model for younger women. To show the world that fashion doesn't have to come at such an environmental cost."

THE INSPIRATION

Riley passed a book on to me after reading it one summer, sailing in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand. I was a little hesitant to read it at first, it was summer after all. I was looking for more of a feel good, romance novel to entertain me during the calm days on anchor, not another book about how you can help change the world where you're usually left feeling more hopeless than before you'd read it. It was only after few pages into this one that I was hooked.

The Most Good You Can Do: How Effective Altruism Is Changing Ideas About Living Ethically
by Australian philosopher Peter Singer

Peter directs your attention to a challenging new movement in which his own ideas have played a crucial role: effective altruism. Effective altruism is built upon the simple but profoundly unsettling idea that living a fully ethical life involves doing the most good.

Such a life requires a rigorously unsentimental view of charitable giving: to be a worthy recipient of our support, an organization must be able to demonstrate that it will do more good with our money or our time than other options open to us.

Singer introduces us to an array of remarkable people who are restructuring their lives in accordance with these ideas, and shows how, paradoxically, living altruistically often leads to greater personal fulfillment than living for oneself.

Doing the Most Good develops the challenges Singer has made, to those who donate to the arts, and to charities focused on helping our fellow citizens, rather than those for whom we can do the most good. Effective altruists are extending our knowledge of the possibilities of living less selfishly, and of allowing reason, rather than emotion, to determine how we live.

OUR GOAL

Our dream is for Vaga Bella Swim to be 100% self sustainable and to make regular donations to charity. Donations will be made yearly, with Effective Altruism Funds being the default charity. We’d also like to let our community help us decide where the other half of the sum will go! This is a great way for you, the customer, to be more a part of the process and to choose what cause you want to support.

First, Vaga Bella Swim needs to raise enough to be able to sustain itself and grow so that I (Elayna) am not having to pay for the manufacturing of the swimwear (please, Riley's already had a few minor heart attacks after looking at our finances 😂😳).

We have sourced the finest recycled fabrics from REPREVE® trade marked recycled fabrics. Our prints are hand drawn and our factories ethical practices means that all are well compensated for their craft. It turns out that recycled swimwear, without the sneaky shortcuts that harm the environment, is not cheap to make. This means that profits will be allocated to charity when enough has been made, to cover the costs of the manufacturing. We are committed to donating 10% of our profits and by purchasing swimwear, you are helping Vaga Bella Swim in our mission to betterment globally.
When the time comes to making donations to charity, you’ll be notified via Instagram and email. So be sure to sign up to our newsletter on our home page for updates.
